Hello friends and welcome to Media Tech Support. In today’s post, we will learn about Apple iOS. With this, we will also discuss about different versions of iOS. So let’s start.
What is iOS?
iOS is Apple’s mobile operating system running devices such as iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. The name was changed with the introduction of the iPad, originally known as the iPhone OS.
iOS uses a multi-touch interface that uses simple hand gestures to operate the device, such as swiping your finger over the screen to move to the next page or zooming through your Pinning fingers.
iOS uses a multi-touch interface that uses simple device operating gestures such as screen-crossing your finger to move to the next page or pinching your fingers to zoom out. By the way, over 2 million iOS apps can be downloaded from Apple’s App Store. Apart from that, for any mobile device, the Apple App Store is a very popular app store.
Steve Jobs first launched a fresh iPhone operating system in 2007. Although it was a distinct version of Mac OS, he called it “iPhone runs on OS X.” His concept was that the iPhone should rely on internet applications that act like indigenous applications.
Apple renamed its operating system in 2008 and renamed it to iPhone OS. Apple later rebranded it as iOS in 2011 to demonstrate that it is being used not only for cell phones but also for other mobile devices. Now the issue arises, then what is the complete form of iOS? I-represents the Apple product line and OS-represents the OS.
Versions detail of iOS
This was Apple’s first release in 2007, where he introduced a touch-centred system. When it was released, everybody said it was similar to Apple Desktops ‘ operating system.
Together with iPhone 3 G, this system was released in 2008. Any user using the 1.x system could upgrade their OS to 2.x, which introduced users to the new ‘ App Store ‘ for easy downloading to their iPhone and iPod Touch. Could do.
OS 3.x updated operating system released in 2009 with iPhone 3GS release. It included some new features like MMS and copy, paste feature in Apple.
The new operating system was released as’ iOS’ in 2010, with a new name. This was the first operating system not available for all devices, and the first system that could be downloaded in Free by iPod Touch users. Older devices like the iPhone 3 G and iPod Touch 2nd Generation can not use the new multitasking features or the ability to set a home screen wallpaper with this operating system. But new multitasking features could be offered by all other recent devices.
It was released in 2011 and made available for later versions of iPhone 3GS onward phones, iPod Touch 3rd Generation, and all iPads. This new system offered iCloud, iMessage, Reminders, Newsstand, and iTunes to synchronize wirelessly. What could be accessing the camera from the lock screen besides this.
Last version: 6.1.6. Ended Support: 2015. On February 21, 2014, it was released. Initial version: On September 19, 2012, it was released. The controversy was one of iOS 6’s main themes. While this version introduced Siri to the world — which, despite being outperformed by competitors, was later truly a revolutionary technology — issues with it also led to major changes.
Apple’s growing competition with Google, whose Android smartphone platform posed a threat to the iPhone, was responsible for these problems. Google had been providing iPhone apps for pre-installed Maps and YouTube since 1.0. That’s changed in iOS 6.
Apple introduced its Maps app, which was severely affected by bugs, misguided directions, and some feature issues. Apple CEO Tim Cook called for a public apology to Scott Forstall, head of iOS development, as part of the company’s efforts to solve the problems. Cook fired him when he declined. Before the first model, Forstall had been involved with the iPhone, so it was a profound change.
Last release: 7.1.2. On June 30, 2014, it was released. Initial version: it was released on September 18, 2013 Like iOS 6, when it was released, iOS 7 faced considerable resistance. However, unlike iOS 6, the reason why iOS 7 users were unhappy was that things didn’t function. It was rather because things had changed.
After Scott Forstall’s firing, iOS development was supervised by Apple Design’s CEO, Johnny Ivey, who had earlier worked only on hardware. Ivey brought several major changes to the user interface in this version of iOS and was intended to be more contemporary.
While the structure was actually more contemporary, for some users it was hard to read its narrower, thinner fonts, and for others, the continuous animation caused motion sickness.
The present iOS design is based on the modifications produced in iOS 7. Users became accustomed to these modifications after the improvements produced by Apple, and complaints were decreased.
Finished support: n / Last version: 8.4.1. It was released on 13 August 2015. Initial edition: published on September 17, 2014.
Version 8.0 returned to an iOS procedure that was more coherent and stable. Now with the basic modifications that have taken place over the past two years, Apple has again concentrated on providing significant fresh characteristics.
Among these characteristics was Apple Pay and Apple Music’s safe, contactless payment scheme with iOS 8.4 update. With Dropbox, all iCloud platforms like iClould Drive, iCloud Photo Library, and iCloud Music Library have been improved.
Support terminated: n / a Last version: 9.3.5. It was published on 25 August 2016.
Initial version: It was published on September 16, 2015 After several years of major changes to both the interface and technical foundations of iOS, many observers started to claim that iOS was no longer a stable, credible, strong performer. He proposed that prior to adding fresh characteristics, Apple should concentrate on constructing the OS basis.
The business was doing the same thing with iOS 9. This release was usually targeted at enhancing the basis of the OS for the future while adding some fresh characteristics.
Major improvements in speed and accountability, stability and performance have been given to older versions. iOS 9 has proven to be the main focus for the significant changes produced iniOS 10 and 11 that set the basis for it.
Finished support: n / Current version: 10.3.3. On July 19, 2017, it was released. Initial version: on September 13, 2016 it was published.
Apple’s ecosystem around iOS has long been called a “walled garden” because it’s a very nice place inside, but it’s difficult to get to. This was reflected in many ways when the iOS interface was locked by Apple, with options given to apps. Cracks in the walled garden in iOS 10 started to appear, and Apple put them there.
Interoperability and customization were the main themes of iOS 10. Apps can now communicate directly on one device with each other, allowing one app to use some features without opening another app. Siri has become accessible in fresh forms for third-party applications. IMessage still had apps built-in.
In addition, users now had fresh methods of customizing their experiences (after all!), being able to delete built-in apps in their text messages for fresh animations and impacts.
Certainly, for the iPhone, iOS 11 has many improvements, but its main focus is to turn the models of the iPad Pro series into legitimate laptop replacements for some users.
This is achieved through a sequence of modifications intended to turn iOS into a desktop operating system running on the iPad. These changes include all-new support for drag and drop, split-screen applications and multiple workspaces, a file browser app, and Apple Pencil support for notation and handwriting.
Finished support: n / Current version: 11.4. On May 29, 2018, it was released.
Initial version: On September 19, 2017, it was published.
Initially, iOS was designed to run on the iPhone. Since then, iPod Touch and iPad (and its version to power Apple Watch and Apple TV) have been expanded to support it. The focus changed from iPhone to iPad in iOS 11.
Finished support: n / Current version: 12.0. On September 17, 2018, it was published. Initial version: on September 17, 2018, it was released.
The new features and enhancements added to iOS 12 are not as widespread or revolutionary as previous updates to the OS. Instead, IOS 12 focuses more on refining commonly used features and using their devices by users.
Some of the main characteristics of iOS 12 included Siri enhancements such as Siri Shortcuts, Augmented Reality with ARKit 2, and provided users and parents with screen time ways to monitor and regulate their device usage.
